Natural Gas VS Propane- Which Fire Pit or Fire Table is the best for you & your home?

Are you looking to heat things up in your Garden or Outdoor Living Space? If you have selected the right model for you, the next decision revolves around whether you want to use Natural Gas or Propane for your Fire Pit. Both of these fuels have pros and cons, which we will go through in this article. Thank you for shopping with Fire Pit Outfitters, if you have any questions, always feel welcome to give us a call and have a chat.

The basics of this choice is do you want to use a Propane Gas Tank or do you want to use the Natural Gas line from your property? Propane comes in tanks that can be attached to a BBQ or a Fire Table, Natural Gas is fed to the fire table via the line from your home.

There are several factors to consider when making your choice here:

  • Cost - Natural Gas for the win in this category, it is only about one sixth of the cost for Natural Gas in comparison to Propane.
  • Portability - Propane tanks can be great if you would like to move your fire pit around or to take it with you when you travel.
  • Convenience - Natural Gas is the winner for me in this category too, you never have to worry about going to the Gas Station or carrying the heavy tank around. Also great if you have a rooftop patio or somewhere that you have to carry a tank, Natural Gas is the better option here
  • Efficiency In terms of efficiency, propane has the advantageas it provides more BTU
  • Clean burning - Natural Gas burns cleaner than propane which means that there may be less potential for soot. However as it is cleaner, it provides a less yellow colour flame

As you can see above, there are several benefits for each gas type, they are not all that different from eachother however there are certain factors that will help you to make your decision easier. Propane are more mobile however run out and need to be filled/ replaced. Natural Gas is not portable as it is connected to your home and have unlimited fuel because of this, they are also cheaper to run too.
